 Curious about who I am? Of course you are, that’s why you’re here! I grew up in a rural/suburban farm town and spent most of my 20s working in various fancy and strange restaurants. However, the daily stress of kitchen life wasn’t healthy for my bipolar disorder. After taking a break to reassess my life, I realized that creating things m

 Curious about who I am? Of course you are, that’s why you’re here! I grew up in a rural/suburban farm town and spent most of my 20s working in various fancy and strange restaurants. However, the daily stress of kitchen life wasn’t healthy for my bipolar disorder. After taking a break to reassess my life, I realized that creating things made me feel good and was what I loved doing. Now, I spend my time learning and creating, over and over again. I really, really love it.

 I started with abstract acrylic paintings, but my drawing skills were pretty weak, so I dove into pen and ink to improve. Now, I use a lot of mixed media: acrylic, ink, colored pencils, digital, linocut, pyrography, loose change—you name it. My work continues to evolve and grow.

 Initially, art was a messy, abstract outlet for my unmedicated bipolar disorder. After starting medication, I was able to focus on learning for the first time. My illustrations and love of mark-making are heavily influenced by manga artists like Junji Ito, Go Nagai, and Kentaro Miura. My love of color and abstraction probably traces back

 Initially, art was a messy, abstract outlet for my unmedicated bipolar disorder. After starting medication, I was able to focus on learning for the first time. My illustrations and love of mark-making are heavily influenced by manga artists like Junji Ito, Go Nagai, and Kentaro Miura. My love of color and abstraction probably traces back to Dale Chihuly. My favorite artistic ingredient, absurdity, comes from artists like Ralph Steadman and Jim Moir. Add a sprinkle of cosmic dread, and you’ve got a Branden sundae.
